Do It American was founded in 2008 and started production in 2010.  By 2015 we had grown to occupy a 23,000 square foot building serving a diverse group of customers with a concentration in products for gas utilities.  We machine, weld, assemble and have some advanced processes, however, these are not the innovations that make us successful.  We believe that our success is found in our creation of good, lean, manufacturing process.  If you look a little deeper, you will see that those lean processes are possible because of good people working and improving together, to accomplish common objectives.  This is our innovation!

Assembly

When you consider manufacturing in the United States, it is commonly believed that the last process you would perform here is assembly. The labor cost in the U.S. is high; therefore, we cannot compete with low wage regions of the world. Often the solution to this labor cost disadvantage is to deploy complex, inflexible, and expensive automated systems to replace these manual processes. We believe that this traditional thinking is wrong!

We believe that the labor cost disadvantage becomes irrelevant when the total cost of production is considered and when assembly processes are set up the right way.Using lean production cells and low level automation when appropriate, we can assemble at a price point that makes domestic manufacturing viable. We are committed to turning existing paradigms on their head by providing assembly processes that meet your cost requirements.

Fabrication

Do It American has the capability to make simple to complex fabrications to meet your requirements. Whether you have a fully developed design or you would like us to help bring your concept to manufacturability, we can help. We work with low carbon steel, special alloy carbon steels, stainless steel, and aluminum using a variety of forming, cutting, and welding processes. MIG, TIG, & Stick Welding, and Plasma cutting are all within our capability.

Please see the examples on this website to get an idea of the wide range of our capabilities. Our products have been used in many industries including Fitness, Electric and Gas Utility, Solar Energy, Hobby, Retail Display, Refinery, Construction, and many more.

One of our advantages is our ability to establish processes to meet your needs. We currently do thermal drilling and tapping which provides a very strong low cost threaded hole in thin sheet metals and tubes. This process results in a threaded connection that is superior to mechanical inserts or weld nuts when applied to thin materials. Let us know your requirements and we’ll work with you to develop the process.

Machining

CNC Machining is a large and growing part of what we do at Do It American MFG Company. Our American Made CNC Machining Centers give us the ability to produce parts of various levels ofcomplexity out of a wide range of materials. Low carbon steels, stainless steels, plastics, aluminum alloys, copper alloys, and exotic alloys are all within our machining capability. Many of the machined components we build are used right here at Do It American in fabrications and assemblies. Other parts are machined to customer requirements and supplied individually or in kits for use in their products or systems.

We like to think that we approach machining processes a bit differently than traditional machine shops. Most Machine Shops see machining as a series of individual batch steps that are completed in series, with a focus on getting each individual step completed as fast as possible. The time it takes to get your first finished part can be long. We choose to look at machining as a process that is integrated into manufacturing with a focus on moving each part from raw material to finished part with as little lead time as possible. This lean approach to machining has served our customers well by allowing us to be a more responsive and cost-effective supplier than they are accustomed to.

Let us take a look at your machining needs. We’ll do our best to provide you with service that exceeds what you have experienced in the past.

Engineering

Many of the products that Do It American produces are the result of joint design efforts between Do It American and our customers. Personnel at Do It American have decades of Engineering and Manufacturing experience that give us the ability to evaluate products for manufacturability. This experience coupled with creativity and lean manufacturing know-how, are the things that make Do It American a good choice to meet your manufacturing needs. We would be glad to work with you to review your Product for changes that make it less costly to manufacture. When it comes time to prepare for manufacturing, we can use our Solid Modeling Capability to evaluate designs, develop production tooling and fixtures, and generate tools paths for our CNC processes.

One of the strategies that we have found to be invaluable is to hold what we call a Joint Design Event with a customer. For many types of products this turns out to be an effective way to get from a conceptual idea to a ready for production (or field trial) design in a condensed amount of time. The way this works is for us to set aside a block of time where personnel from your company work in our shop along with our engineering and manufacturing personnel to quickly develop a product. With a little planning and preparation, access to our machining and fabrication capabilities, and the focused participation of all parties, it is amazing what can be accomplished in a couple days. The key is to quickly try things and determine what works and what does not work. Several of the products that we currently produce for our customers have been developed in this way. In several instances customers have come to our shop and been able to return to their own company a couple days later with a working prototype ready for field trials. It is intense, it’s a lot of work, but it is also effective and fun!

Services

At Do It American, we believe that making high quality cost-effective product is very important; however, providing that product when the customer wants it, in the right quantity for the customer, and in a way that best supports the customer’s processes is a major factor in being a good supplier and partner.

We can customize our fulfillment process to best meet your needs and make the connection between your company and Do It American as close and as smooth as possible. There is no one, right way, to accomplish this. One way may be for Do It American to keep a small stock of parts kits on hand for you to pull when needed. You pull this single item (the kit), our job is to quickly replace those kits in preparation for your next pull. Maybe your demand is somewhat stable and predictable but you would rather receive smaller quantities of parts frequently, rather than being forced to purchase a container full of material that floods your warehouse. It may be that your demand is very sporadic and you need us to simply establish responsive processes to best meet your irregular order pattern.

We can work with you in all these different scenarios to best meet your needs for timely, headache free delivery of your orders.

Do It American can also help in other ways. We have several cases where we have set up joint systems with our customers to provide maintenance & refurbishment services. Please explore examples below. We at Do It American enjoy these types of systems very much. They require a great amount of collaboration between Do It American and our customer/partner where Do It American becomes an extension of your process. The key to success in this type of arrangement is trust. The trust is built slowly through demonstrated performance and measurable improvement. If you have any areas of your operation that you think may benefit from this type of program, please do not hesitate to contact Do It American.
